Bestselling author of the popular Smart Chick Mysteries and Whispers of the Bayou, Mindy Starns Clark delivers another exciting mystery to her eager fans.

Chloe Ledet grew up in the shadow of her larger than life father, a famous chef and New Orleans restaurateur. When Chef Julien falls ill, he decides to finally publish his secret recipes a decision his financial partners vehemently oppose.

As her father lies dying, Chloe earnestly searches for the source of Julien s special seasonings. Dodging the desperate efforts of those who absolutely do not want the secrets revealed, Chloe realizes that the closer she gets to the source, the more danger she encounters!

Framed for murder, Chloe s prayers become more fervent. Can she safely trust the mysterious Cajun leading her on a cat and mouse escape through the very heart of Cajun country? Will she survive even triumph? Or by trusting this handsome stranger, has she gone from the frying pan into the fire?

Under the Cajun Moon (Audible Audio Edition) Mindy Starns Clark Laural Merlington Oasis Audio Books

I have been a fan of Mindy Starns Clark since I discovered her first Christian mystery series. She consistently offers edge of your seat tales of intrigue dashed with some strong romance. Stand alone entry Under the Cajun Moon is no exception.

Chloe wakes up in a stupor in a strange hotel room. The police are pounding on the door. She lets them in only to have them discover the dead body on the couch. The victim is a man Chloe barely remembers meeting. As the police begin questioning her, she attempts to remember the previous 24 hours.

Chloe had rushed to New Orleans to be by the side of her father, famous chef Julian Ledet, had been shot. But instead of heading straight to the hospital, she was asked to take care of some business at the family restaurant. During the meeting, Chloe learned some long buried family secrets from the murder victim. Are they what got him killed and her father shot? Can she stay alive long enough to clear her name?

Since much of the set up is told in various flash backs, we feel involved from the first page. Once Chloe's memory catches up with the present, things pick up even more speed, and I had a hard time putting the book down. The ending did feel a bit rushed, but it was a logical ending.

Weaving through the book is the story of Jacques, a young man in France in 1719. It is fairly obvious early on what his story is doing in the book, although there were a few things I didn't guess ahead of time. Even so, I found myself so caught up in the second storyline that I was often frustrated when we bounced back to the present.

Obviously, this works because the characters are so well constructed. I connected with both Chloe and Jacques right away. Travis is a little obvious as the love interest, but I really did like him as well. Some of the bits of character development were predictable, but there were also some nice surprises.

Yes, this is a Christian mystery. Outside of one scene, however, there is nothing remotely preachy. And that scene? It was still entertaining and feels like a real part of the story and not something forced in to make it Christian.

Mindy's writing has really matured over the course of her books. The writing is sharp, vividly describing the characters and action without slowing things down. The epilogue devolves a little into telling as it tries to tie up several loose ends, but that's my only complaint with the whole book.

Under the Cajun Moon continues Mindy Starns Clark's streak of winning books. I recommend this book, and her others, wholeheartedly.

Under the Cajun Moon (Audible Audio Edition) Mindy Starns Clark Laural Merlington Oasis Audio Books Reviews

I love, love, love this story. Fun, entertaining, tense in places, all in all it is excellent! I recommend it highly.
After reading Whispers On the Bayou, I decided this would be a great follow up, but found this to be just okay. I'm not quite sure why I feel it was just okay. Maybe because I was expecting it to be more of the same, maybe it was a lack of character development - they just felt like strangers. Usually, after reading a new book, I can't start a new one right away because I'm still sort of involved with it. But, this time, I had no problem picking up one of the other books ordered.
I have read 2 other Mindy Starns Clark's books and was not disappointed in this one. I love the way she is able to weave cultural history (in this case Cajun), Christianity and a well developed plot into a spellbound story. Under the Cajun Moon is a murder mystery that keeps you wondering 'who done it' and how are Chloe and friend Travis going to get out of this attempt to keep them from gold they inherited yet only recently found out about. Clark expertly weaves a separate 1700s story of how the gold statuettes came into the family. This is well worth the read.
I started listening to this book but didn't finish it because I got bored. It was certainly well written. I just wasn't interested in the subject matter. There seems to be a trend of writing about gold and coins, and that just doesn't interest me. I didn't realize what the focus of the book would be until I started it. I will say that I have quite enjoyed other books written by this author.
I agree with some other reviewers that the main character is very self-absorbed. Sure, her parents didn't pay much attention to her, but grow up, Chloe! One detail that really bothered me was that she was running around the bayou at night in flip-flops, which would be impossible. I also didn't care much for the flashback chapters. I think the pacing would have worked better if the whole backstory had been told at the beginning, then Chloe's story after it. I don't usually read Christian or romance novels, and made this selection for our book club without realizing that it is both.
Chloe Ledet wakes, confused, in a hotel suite. As police officers enter, she realizes her father's lawyer is sprawled nearby on a couch--dead. She is immediately booked on suspicion of murder. Chloe insists that she and the dead man have blood drawn to test for drugs, sure that is the source of her memory loss for the previous evening and night.

Chloe slowly realizes she has been framed about the lawyer's death and determines to learn the truth. But who can she trust? The one person who cares about her and might help, Sam, is also found murdered.

Earlier Chloe, an expert on world etiquette, had rushed from a television show in Chicago to be with her father in New Orleans. He is hospitalized, in a coma, the victim of a strange shooting.

Her mother instructs Chloe to first meet with the lawyer at her father's famous restaurant and sign important papers. Plus, her father, who has seldom paid attention to her, expects Chloe to solve the mystery of a missing treasure, maybe hidden in the swamps of Louisiana.

Chloe has never felt loved or accepted by any group, but turns to various people for help. Each apparently becomes untrustworthy. She doesn't even believe God can be trusted to help her.

Like in any fascinating novel, especially by Mindy Starns Clark, troubles and disasters follow Chloe as she searches for the truth. Meanwhile, we learn more about her past life and about Cajun culture. She meets a handsome young Cajun man who rescues her several times. Will romance follow or will he also betray her? And will she ever reach her father's side at the hospital? Why does her mother believe Chloe has shot her father, the lawyer and Sam?

A most satisfying novel to read! Naturally, the villain is the person we least suspect.
