An Obsession with Vengeance Wanted Men Nancy Haviland Scott Schumaker 9781491598719 Books

Ms. Haviland had the ingredients for a decent soup; but as usual, she watered it down. There are interesting characters with too many internal monologues. The pacing is too often lulled and drawn out. Again, her intended shocking twist was figured out chapters before her reveal which makes her story anticlimactic. On a positive note, she does provide enough character background for the hero and heroine that reader gains a better understanding of what drives them. Andrew was a refreshing dynamic but it should have taken the heroine so long to acknowledge him. His existence definitely should have been known to the family from the onset. It wouldn't hurt to have adults have real conflicts rather than contrite miscommunications that takes chapters to result. The erotic scenes were sizzling. Overall, this book has been the best in the "Wanted Men" series.

An Obsession with Vengeance Wanted Men Nancy Haviland Scott Schumaker 9781491598719 Books Reviews

Excellent. This book keeps you entertained constantly. Could not put it down. This is a must read.
Everytime I read another of Nancy's books I think to myself, this is my favorite of the series....until I read the next....so in saying that....this is my favorite book....to date.

Maks the Russian lover *fanning self* is one HOT woman satisfying man! What I would give to be Sydney, the Australian, that has piqued his interest.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I also purchased the Audible version, it totally enhanced the reading experience. Loved all the accents, especially the Russian!
The writing is delicious. It feels so real you hurt with the characters, you laugh with them, you fall in love with them. These people do not exist in the real world because human nature does not allow for the complete separation of daily evil they address without losing a part of yourself to it as Sergei soul in this installment. I have read all the books in this series and hands down each is a great read. The men are a throwback to an era I am not sure ever existed but they each represent at the core what most women want, unfailing love, desire, respect, character, loyalty and .... need I go on? Love these "Wanted Men"!
It is always very gratifying to discover a new author that eventually becomes a favorite.
After reading the 3 books in her series I am looking forward to her new upcoming releases.
There are 3 “Vengeance” books in this series so far. An “Obsession” is the third one and so far, my favorite.
The books are emotionally charged. All heroes carry scars from their childhood – some, more horrific (Maxim) than others. Because of this it is hard for any of them to commit to a relationship and their line of work does not make matters any easier. They worry about dangers this life will bring to the loved ones and the restrictions it puts on their daily lives. But… love conquers all. The women in their life accept their way of life and them for what they are.
As in every story, a culminating crisis develops, but the author handles it very well in my opinion – no prolonged drama or extreme violence and physical abuse to an innocent person. Although, there is plenty of violence, and it is done in a painful and torturous way to individuals who live in a culture where violence begets violence. The way the stories hero’s take care of their enemies does not elicit much censure from me.
The books have to be read in order because epilogue is leading you into the next book in the series.
The narration by Scott Schumaker was very good.
5 stars
First of all, kudos to Nancy Haviland for creating an interesting set of characters in her Wanted Men series. If you like the Unfinished Hero Collection by Kristen Ashley, you might want to give this series a try. These are the bad boys (Mafia and Russian Gangsters) that you would run from in real life, but who make fun book boyfriends. Unlike many romance novels, there is a plot and the characters are well rounded.

Keeping in mind that I liked the book, I want to identify some areas of concern. There are two elements at the outset that impact the believability of the story. How could a 17 year old pregnant girl run away from Australia and settle in the U.S. with a new identity without any assistance? This bugged me for a couple of chapters, but I was willing to put it aside for the sake of the story.

A bigger issue is that there seems to be some kind of financial magic at Sydney's nightclub. Imagine that you could afford to purchase and destroy $50,000 worth of drugs PER MONTH for a year to keep your staff and customers safe. What kind of profit is this club pulling in that she could afford to operate it with this kind of monthly loss? How do you do the bookkeeping for something like this? The whole going across state line to burn the drugs was too far fetched.

Strangely enough, I could forgive the first two plot issues, but was driven absolutely CRAZY by the repeated references to how little/tiny/small Sydney was (about 40 times). Maks is 6'7". Sydney is 5'7" which is on the tall side of average for a woman and she likes to wear high heels. It is absurd that Maks continually refers to her as tiny unless he has only hung around ian females. Being very well-versed sexually, he must have met women shorter than Sydney as it would seem that half the female population would be shorter than she was. It sounds like nit-picking, but the constant references to her tiny hands, tiny feet, and petite body drove me crazy. In her Manolos she would be around 6' for goodness sake. I wish one of the beta readers had pointed the overuse of the tiny references or encouraged the author to rewrite the heroine as 5'3. Final issue -- No. more one. word. sentences. ever.

This is a 3 - 4 star rating because my frustration with this book won't stop me from buying the next one in the series. Haviland is a good author with lots of promise and I look forward to seeing what she writes as she gains more experience.
