Dark Mountain The David Wolf Series Jeff Carson Books Reviews
Reading this book was like watching a giant roll of coiled steel rolling down a grade, picking up speed as the grade got steeper and steeper to the bottom. That was my take on the Rising Action. The Falling Action came after I was virtually exhausted from the foregoing.Climax was totally exciting. Very well done leading to a neat Resolution at the end.
Carson was just unrelenting in the telling of Dark Mountain. I have read all his books and think this was the best of the lot. I don't re tell story lines in my reviews, but if after reading this book you don't come out with a large WHEW!, then I don't know what it takes for an author, any author, to get your adrenaline going.
Be warned, however, this one is a bit gritty in spots so read at your own caution. Will you be satisfied with the story line at the end of this read? Yes you will.
this is a fantastic series! There is a wonderful cast of characters, that the reader can believe in and root for. There is plenty of action to keep the reading pace easy and fast. The plot is tight and very well developed. Something else I like is Carson does a wonderful job of finishing his story. It doesn't end quickly with the thrilling action conclusion. No, the takes just enough time to conclude all the various plot points. Like I said, I love these characters who are not one dimensional, but experience plenty of emotion. They face many different personal dilemmas and come through various trials and tribulations. I hope Carson writes many more Wolf novels! I can't wait for the next. For the new reader to this series, I highly recommend reading them in order from the beginning (though not absolutely necessary) because the character development through the series would mean more to the reader.
I am biased--I will admit that outright. I have met and gotten to know Jeff over the last handful of years. He is a good man/husband and father. So I already thought highly of him. When he told me he would be writing books about the area (fictional but still with some clever accuracy) and in a topic I enjoy reading--I was very intrigued. Now, in his 10th David Wolfe book--he is only getting better with each passing story. I lost some sleep because I was having trouble putting the book down. Am I the only one who reads at night--and when I feel my eyes getting heavy-try and find a good spot to save my place to start again? Well-even if I am in the minority-I was having issues finding a good stopping point. I wanted to keep going, find out what 'happens next' in the story. Lost sleep or not--it was worth it. Another very good book that kept my attention and interest the entire time. Great job! As always-looking forward to more David Wolfe stories and anything else you might come up with.
5+ Stars. Short review Read it! Jeff Carson is a must buy, must read author. His David Wolf series is thoroughly enjoyable, compelling and most of all, realistic.
Easy to follow stand-alone that draws the reader into the storyline. You feel the emotions of the characters, easily inserting yourself in their thought process.
Believable characters with distinct personalities and issues that make them all the more realistic.
Interesting, informative, thought-provoking and snarky dialogue.
The ME rolled his eyes and leaned down to her with a lowered voice. “Facebook Live, a laptop and a smart phone, and we’re in the building with them. I came up with the idea.”
Well, like Dad used to say, ‘Put your sh@@ back in your a@@!"
Four evenings ago, he’d brushed shoulders with death more than once. He’d resigned himself to dying. More than that, he’d expected it. He’d held his final breath, felt warm blood on his face, and never expected to take another. And yet now he lived. Coming out of the ordeal, he felt an underlying impatience with any of the bullsh@@, petty pursuits of the normal lives of the living.
I will re-read this story and always look forward to, pre-order when possible, new works by this author.
SBCSD Chief Detective David Wolf is called to the murder scene of Pat Xander... Xander's last client was Detective Tom Rachette, who is no longer answering his phone... Wolf receives a message and must face his past in order to save Rachette... Former SBCSD Detective Heather Patterson tries to reach Wolf after receiving a cryptic message of her own...
The tenth book in the series has us visiting Rocky Points and the people who live there — all are old friends now. Readers are (once again) given the chance to follow the clues along with Wolf and the others to try to solve the case. This story was full of twists and turns that every good mystery needs. As the investigation proceeded, I had certain parts worked out, but I was wrong about other parts. There were still a few surprises in store before the big reveal. I really liked the end and I am looking forward to reading RAIN to see how it continues...
I thoroughly enjoyed DARK LAKE and I hope this series continues for a long time (yes, I am a fan!).
